Cheese & Heart Disease (oh boy)

Heart disease is something many people fear to have in their life. One in every four people dies from heart disease in the United States. This kind of shocking number causes many to carefully watch their every move. Fortunately, this can be prevented with the power of dairy products.

Going To Sweden

Scientists worldwide wanted to see the impact of consuming a high amount of dairy products. For this study, they headed to Sweden, which has the highest consumption of dairy in the world. 4,150 participants took part in the study, which included a questionnaire and health screening.

Some Surprising Results

The study’s results showed people who ate the most dairy products had a lower risk of heart disease. To make sure things were concrete, the researchers compared their studies to those made in the United States and the United Kingdom. When it comes to what foods were consumed, it varied depending on the person. “Increasing evidence suggests that the health impact of dairy foods may be more dependent on the type — such as cheese, yogurt, milk, and butter — rather than the fat content, which has raised doubts if avoidance of dairy fats overall is beneficial for cardiovascular health,” lead author Kathy Trieu said in a statement.

Dairy Is Important After All

In the end, dairy foods have shown why they’re such an important part of our diet. Aside from building strong bones, dairy food includes important nutrients such as vitamin D and protein. “It is important to remember that although dairy foods can be rich in saturated fat, they are also rich in many other nutrients and can be a part of a healthy diet. However, other fats like those found in seafood, nuts, and non-tropical vegetable oils can have greater health benefits than dairy fats,” said lead author Kathy Trieu.
